More Information

Aetolia-Acarnania is one of the most generously gifted areas of Greece. With a very good strategical location, it binds Epirus, Peloponnese, Attica and the Ionian Islands, and stands on the golden path of Italy-Corfu-Patras. Two-thirds of the boundaries of this area have access to the sea, which has led to a large number of harbors, ports, and, of course, many kilometers of excellent pristine sandy beaches. Estuaries, lakes and rivers, carrying the revitalizing water to the groves, fields and mountains, have created an amazing natural complex where close to the sea and the beaches there stretch green plains, fields with ears, and "alpine" mountains covered with thick pine trees.

Aetolia-Acarnania is a must-visit for romantic couples, people in love with nature and history, and those who want to find their own little paradise on Earth.

The capital of Aetolia-Acarnania is the city Messolonghi. A modern commercial and financial center is the city of Agrinio located 35 km away from Messolonghi. This ancient city was founded four centuries BC by a Greek king Agriem, in whose honor it was named.

50 km north- west of Messolonghi, there is port Astakos.

By the Gulf of Arta, there is a popular resort port city of Amfilohija, built as an amphitheater on two hills descending to the sea.

Be sure to visit the legendary port city of Naupactus, which has been a military, political and economic center for millennia.

A picturesque village of Etoliko, located 13 km away from Messolonghi on an island in the Gulf of Messolonghi, is also of interest. It was founded in the Middle Ages and was connected to the mainland by a 300-meter arched stone bridge .
Finishing the tour in the region, enjoy the beautiful coast in the ancient cities of Paleros, Vonitsa and Thermos.

Getting to Aetolia-Acarnania:
By an intercity bus from Athens (via the Rion-Antirion bridge). The bus stops in Messolonghi, Etoliko, Amfilohija , Vonitsa, Nafpaktos, Astakos, and Mytikas. By plane from Athens to the airport of Aktion. The distance between Aktion and Agrinio - 96 km; Aktion and Messolonghi - 120 km.

Hotels and beaches of Nafpaktos.

Are you looking for high standards of hotel service, beautiful views, clean beaches and an ideal location?

Then you should go to Nafpaktos. In this charming city that stretches among pine forests over the azure sea, with delightful villages scattered among fir forests, a modern tourist can find all the necessary facilities. Hotels on the most beautiful beaches of Nafpaktos look at the Corinthian Gulf, a strong Venetian fortress-port and the Rio-Antirrio bridge connecting the Peloponnese with mainland Greece.

The locals find it extremely important to maintain a special combination of heroic and romantic atmosphere.
Visitors admire the old round port with two picturesque towers guarding the entrance. The well preserved Venetian Fortress at the top of the hill is a real pearl of the Mediterranean and one of the most beautiful fortresses of Greece.

There are two excellent beaches in the city, Gribovo and Psani, surrounded by the groves stretching from the hills down to the water.
The beach of Gribovo, a winner of “A Blue Flag Award”, is on the eastern side of the city and is famous for its cleanest water. It's a sandy beach with free showers, changing rooms, plenty of cafes, restaurants, and taverns for any taste. There are four modern hotels on the seashore. In summer, the coastal road becomes a pedestrian zone, so that cars do not bother people relaxing on the beach. As an extra facility for kids, there is a playground next to a small pond with ducks. The beach is cleaned daily and there are small litter bins everywhere. The beach is provided with special parking areas.

Psani beach is situated not far from Gribovo beach and has almost the same facilities, but it has two modern playgrounds, telephone booths set up on the territory of the beach, and tennis courts.
